Illinois Premiere of (E)Merging Dances

The Northwestern University Symphony Orchestra will perform the Illinois Premiere of Liza's (E)Merging Dances, which was originally premiered at Carnegie Hall in 2022.  The program continues with Stravinsky's Petrushka—the colorful, Russian folk music-inspired ballet detailing the loves and jealousies of three puppets. Concluding the program is Beethoven's Symphony No. 7.

Liza will sing Natasha Bogojevich's Kyrie and the titular aria from Liza's opera, I DID, DID I? as part of Chicago Soundings' fall concert. Liza Sobel and Jonathan Hannau - American Composers Recital as part of Ear Taxi Festival

Joining forces for the first time in concert, pianist, Jonathan Hannau and Liza have curated a program of music focused around the haunting song cycle George Crumb’s Apparition in celebration of his 90th birthday and Chicago composers' music. Both Jonathan and Liza will include their own original songs. They will perform Jonathan's "Humility" and the world premiere of the titular aria from Liza's opera, I DID, DID I?. In addition, the concert will feature vocal music by Chicago based composers Niki Harlafti and Carlos Jaquez Gonzalez . Their performance is part of Chicago's Ear Taxi Festival.

Bridges performed at Chicago Speaks, Chicago Listens

Chicago Speaks, Chicago Listens is an event that pairs spoken remarks from Chicago’s community leaders with music performed by musicians of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. This season’s featured speakers come from nonprofit organizations that focus on women’s rights and gender justice. As a reflection on our speakers’ remarks Civic musicians will perform music written by women composers with Chicago connections. Members of the Civic Orchestra will perform the Chicago premiere of Liza's piece, Bridges, for flute, clarinet, violin, and cello.
